Marta Lamas is a Mexican writer, graduated in Ethnology from the National School of Anthropology and History, she has a Master and Doctor in Anthropology from the UNAM Anthropological Research Institute. 
In 1976, she was the founder of the first feminist magazine in the Mexican Republic, (after Violetas de Anahuac in 1887 by Laureana Wright). In 1987, she introduced the first feminist article in a Mexican newspaper. She was the founder of the newspaper La Jornada, as well as a columnist in the magazine Proceso and the Spanish newspaper El País. In 1990, she founded Debate Feminista, one of the leading magazines in Latin America, and the Mexican Society for Women's Rights, A.C. (Semillas), an organization that provides support to women with low-income. Two years later, in 1992, she co-founded the Reproduction Information Group, with the aim of informing about abortion, reproductive and sexual health and the rights that exist from the bioethical, social and legal point of view.
Currently, she works as a professor in the Political Science department of the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico ITAM and is the founding director of the Simone de Beauvoir Leadership Institute.
